Opening—Associate Director, Resource and Rural Economics Division, Economic Research Service.The mission of the Economic Research Service (ERS) is to anticipate economic and policy issues related to agriculture, food, the environment, and rural development, and conduct sound, peer-reviewed economic research that broadly and specifically informs public program and policy decisions.  ERS is a primary source of economic information and research in the U.S. Department of Agriculture and its program also informs Congress, policy officials, the research community, and the public at large.

The success of ERS in its mission to conduct research and develop information that informs policy decisions is influenced heavily by the agency’s senior leaders and program managers.  The Associate Director for the Resource and Rural Economics Division (RRED) fully participates with the Division management team in the overall responsibility for planning, development, and review of the Division program of research and analysis as well as data development supporting the research.  Current priority research topics include agriculture’s role in climate policy, the impact of broadband on rural economic development, the economics of land markets including effects of biofuels, and the changing structure of U.S. agriculture.  RRED has responsibility for USDA’s estimates of farm income and reporting on major land uses.
